Shizuka Kawai
Shizuka Kawai (Serenity Wheeler) is the little sister of Katsuya Jounuchi (Joey Wheeler). She's a very caring young girl and very supportive of her brother. She was in the Toei Animated Duel Monsters but for only one episode. Her brother came to visit her in the hospital. She did get to meet all his friends while she was there.
Shizuka and Jounuchi are very close and used to go to the beach together. Their parents divorced and Shizuka lives with their mother. In the Toei animated version the father was a drunk.
Later in the series that was released outside of Japan, Shizuka is going blind. Her brother entered the Duelist Kingdom tournament to win the three million to pay for her operation. He doesn't win but Yuugi wins and gives the winning money to Jounuchi so he could pay for the operation.
After the surgery, Shizuka goes to the place of the Battle City tournamet to cheer her brother on. Unfortunately when she catches up to him he's being manipulated by Malik and dueling Yuugi. Shizuka was the one to rescue Jounuchi when he was pulled into the sea.
During Battle City, Otogi and Honda develop a crush on her but she doesn't seem to like either as more than just friends. Shizuka is usually on the sidelines with Anzu cheering on her friends. It's one of the reasons the pairing of them two together is named Sideshipping. After Mai loses to Yami no Malik, Shizuka spends a lot of time by Mai's side hoping she will wake up. After Yami no Malik is defeated Shizuka and Mai play a joke on Jounuchi with Mai pretending to still be asleep.
Shizuka only duels once and her partners in the duel were Otogi and Honda. They were dueling against one of the members of the Big Five in Noa's Arc. Honda loses sacrificing himself for Shizuka and became a monkey. For awhile after that it doesn't seem like Shizuka will continue the duel. But then her brother makes it to the place and encourages her to fight.
Shizuka and Anzu get their very own episode. It's just a filler episode showing all they've been through. After that episode she isn't seen anymore but because of Jounuchi it's obvious that she will be seeing the group again in the near future.
